ouch...and humbled.

Sunday afternoon, Ty and I were out on the back deck, picking the dead flower petals out of our flowers. My parents had given us an umbrella to put on the deck to give us some shade, but in a wind storm, it broke.
Don't ask me why, but since then, its been laying down on the deck.
Anyways.
I was picking the dead petals out of the flower pot, and my foot happened to be under the big metal pole of that umbrella.
And who should happen to come over and STEP (accidentally) on that dang pole so he could reach the flower pot too?
Yep, my prince charming.
The pole smashed my toe.
I began screaming and yelling, and he didn't know what I was screaming about, so he stood there for a minute, not moving.
He finally figured it out, freed my toe, and apologized over and over while I said a few choice words.
This is what my poor tootsie looked like about an hour after:

I made a huge deal about it, whining and the whole thing, and had decided to milk it.

But then a couple hours ago, I happened upon this blog. It is about a family who found out that their 4 year old son had an inoperable brain tumor. The mother of this blog walks you through every single day of the 4 1/2 month battle their precious son fought. I've been sitting here reading it for a couple hours, just so caught up in it, and I'm not even CLOSE to half way done. I've been totally humbled by this family and their amazing story. To think that I thought bruising my stupid toe was a big deal is extremely embarrassing in comparison to what these parents and their son went through.
If you have some time, make your way over to their blog.
Say a prayer for the family, who lost their sweet boy about 3 weeks ago.
And take a moment to realize that you have so much to be grateful for.
I know I am.

this is what happens

when Daddy leaves his athletic tape on the floor.

Poor thing.
After I helped him out and took the tape off, he sat and licked that paw for literally 20 minutes.
Then he pouted in the corner.

saying goodbye

Beautiful, huh?
I just got back from the last service to be held by our congregation at this church.
Awhile back, we decided to sell so that we could build a larger church for our expanding congregation.
We recently sold it to another Christian group that (thankfully) is going to keep it as a church and not tear it down. Now we will be worshiping in our church's school until our new church is built.

I've technically only been a member of this church for about 4 years.
But those 4 years have held lots of memories for me.
This is where I became a daughter of Christ and prepared for my baptism.
This is where I first really studied the Bible.
This is where I took confirmation classes.
This is where I attended my first Ash Wednesday service ever.
This is where I attended some of the most beautiful Christmas Eve services ever.
This is where I had my first confession.
This is where I had a humbling experience in which I had my feet washed by my Pastor.
This is where I got married to my wonderful husband in the company of everyone we love.

It's sad to say goodbye to this beautiful place.
But as I was listening to my Pastor's homily tonight, I became excited for what God has in store for Trinity Lutheran Church. I will cherish the memories I have of this place, but will wait in joy for what is to come.

  • roast marshmallows in our firepit
  • go for LOTS of walks
  • get a kick-booty tan
  • work on my new SmashBook
  • read lots of books...any suggestions?
  • go on a quick weekend getaway with my hubby
  • go on a zoo date
  • try a new ice cream place
  • watch a beach sunset with ty
  • try some new recipes (don't get too excited, ty.)
  • make some crafty things i've found on Pinterest

let the games begin.

life lately via my cell phone

It's been crazy this past week. Here are some snapshots from my phone:

Husband and father-in-law took down several parts of our fence last weekend in preparation for putting up a new fence this summer. While he did that...I did this:

Stayed inside and worked on final report cards. I have to say, it was really sad to type in the comments section: "Congratulations on graduating from Kindergarten! I'm so proud of you! Good luck next year in first grade." Multiply that by 19, and I was a teary mess by the end of it.

Since the school year was coming to an end, I had to pack everything up so that the walls can be painted over the summer. So here is the "before:"

And here is the "after:"

When I left school today at the end of my first year of teaching, I just stood in the middle of this room. So many things (good and bad) happened in this room in the last 10 months. Its such a bittersweet thing. (I realize I probably sound like an emotional basket case...so I'll spare you with my Kindergarten Graduation sob stories.)

In the stress of the end of the year, I decided to enjoy a relaxing Sunday by spending some time relaxing out back on our deck. I didn't realize I had been out there quite this long...

No...I'm not wearing a white tank top...those are my burn lines. Ouch. So then I began a pretty serious relationship with this stuff:

Thank you, CVS...you probably saved my life.

And that's pretty much all my phone has to say about life around here lately.
Happy Summer Vacation to me!

here it is.

Ok...here's the new blog title, and the new design...whatcha think? I tried to change the web address, but then the blog wasn't showing up in the blog reader of my followers, so I'm leaving it the same as it was for now. In the coming days (or weeks) I may decide to change the address too, but I'll give ya plenty of warning before I do. Lesson Learned: When choosing a title/web address for something, make sure its one you'll want to keep for the long haul.

Its been an incredibly busy week. My kinders graduated today {tear} and I've been getting my room all packed up to be painted this summer. Field day is tomorrow and thankfully that's my last day. I'm ready for the break! Sorry there haven't been many posts the last few days, or pictures for that matter. Its just been SUPER busy!

not quite a new wife.

I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately, and now that we’ve been married two years, I don’t necessarily think I’m a “new wife” anymore. I’m certainly not an experienced wife in any way, but I don’t necessarily think I’m new either. Back when I started my blog over a year ago, I never thought I’d actually stick with it this long, because I never stick with anything more than about 23 minutes. . . so I didn’t really put much thought into the name, and I've never actually been very fond of it. Looking back now, I should have picked a name that could transcend more than a couple years. That said, I’ve been playing around with several new name ideas .
I think I’m going to take a leap and change the name. That means I’ll also be changing the url address, because I want them to match up. If you are a follower, I don’t believe this will affect you in any way, but if you are not a follower, you will have to check back for my new url later. I’m hoping to change everything within the next 24 hours. So stay posted!
